Fort Polk Soldiers, civilians receive degrees

FORT POLK, La. — Fifty Army and civilian students received their college degrees in a commencement ceremony Dec. 7 at Fort Polk’s Main Post Chapel. Colleges and universities represented at graduation included: Central Texas College; Upper Iowa University; Northwestern State University; Central Michigan University; Liberty University; Mercer University; Pierce College; and University of Maryland University College.

Col. Christopher S. Moretti Sr., Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk chief of staff, delivered the commencement address. He said he understood the sacrifices, hard work and determination it takes to earn a degree.

“Today is a momentous occasion for you — the pinnacle of your quest for a higher education,” he said. “You should be proud of yourselves. And I hope it’s just the beginning.”
