Former Fort Polk Soldier returns bearing gift


FORT POLK, La. — Fort Polk’s Mission Training Center was the setting for a presentation Oct. 24. when Col. Jarrett Thomas II, Fort Polk garrison commander, accepted a framed poster presented by Larry LaMasters, a former Fort Polk Soldier and Vietnam War veteran. LaMasters traveled to Fort Polk to present the poster, which he had originally received while at Fort Polk during his basic training.

“On behalf of Major General (Gary) Brito (commander, Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk), Command Sergeant Major (David) Bass and the entire installation, we accept this gracious gift and will hang it in an area viewed by the Fort Polk community on a daily basis. Thank you for your service and this gift,” said Thomas.

Thomas gifted LaMasters with a framed certificate of appreciation, which LaMasters accepted with thanks. “It’s unexpected, wonderful and humbling to receive an award like this,” he said.
