Remember area police on National Fallen Peace Officer Memorial Day

I do take a moment to reflect upon the lives of those that I had the honor and privilege to serve with in a 30-year career that are no longer with us. I celebrate their lives by remembering just how much richer I am for having known them. I feel cheated that we no longer have their contributions to family, country and community.

Sadly, there is another holiday in May that is relatively unknown and scarcely recognized. This holiday is worthy of our attention, reflection and remembrance. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week.
