Take time with people, grow in compassion for others

By Chap. (Capt.) T. CHRIS CRAIN

Spiritual resiliency means not only being resilient for ourselves but also for others. One aspect of being resilient for others is showing them compassion. I read recently about a doctor who realized he needed to grow in compassion. It was 1976 and Dr. Edward West, a young pediatrician, was working in the hospital in the newborn wing. He was supposed to be at a meeting but didn’t get the word. A premature infant stopped breathing and Dr. West did what he was trained to do: He gave the baby infant CPR. In fact, he was the only doctor there trained to resuscitate a premature baby.
