Return to Tiger Land

The 162nd Infantry Brigade hosts “Return to Tiger Land” June 2 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Tiger Land area of North Fort Polk.

The event includes military equipment displays, historic exhibits and more. The Fort Polk Museum on Mississippi Avenue will be closed during the event to allow staff to set up a display in the 162nd Inf Bde Tiger Theater. The display will include exhibits not currently available for viewing at the museum.

Tiger Land veterans are especially encouraged to revisit this historical training area. A closing ceremony is slated for 2 p.m. For more information call 653-2456.

Prayer breakfast

The Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk will host a Memorial Day Prayer Breakfast May 24 at 7 a.m. in the Warrior Community Center. Guest speak is Chap. (Col.) Mike Tarvin.

Free tickets are available through unit chaplains.

DTS classes

Defense Travel Service classes are ongoing at Fort Polk’s Library and Education Center, bldg 660. Each class has 15 computers, so space is limited. Medical Department Activity personnel can take advantage of classes in room 215 as no common access card is needed. Registration is required. Here’s the schedule:

• Approving official/routing official training class, room 111, Thursday from 9-11:30 a.m.

• Traveler training class, room 111, Thursday from 1-3:30p.m.

ACAP hosts employers

The Army Career and Alumni Program Center, 7950 Alabama Ave., bldg 2155, suite 105, hosts the following employers in May:

• Wyotech, a technical school offering educational programs for automotive, diesel, marine, motorcycle, plumbing, electrical and other fields, visits ACAP Tuesday and May 22 and 29 from 9 a.m.-noon.

•Government Personnel Mutual life insurance offers management and agent positions. A representative visits ACAP Tuesday from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

• Universal Technical Institute, a school offering education in automotive, diesel and industrial technology fields, visits ACAP Thursday and May 24 and 31 from 9 a.m.-noon.

Thrift Shop

Fort Polk’s Thrift Shop, located in bldg 2531 on Alabama Avenue (last building on the right), is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., the first Saturday of the month from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and the third Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Call 537-0459.
