Summer kick off

The Farmers Market in downtown Leesville, across the street from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3106, hosts a summer kick off June 16 from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. The event offers free hot dogs, soda, music, military displays and a variety of vendors. For more information visit leesvillemainstreet.org.

Design Leesville logo

Test your artistic skills by designing the next Leesville Main Street logo and the chance of winning $250. The logo must represent the Leesville Main Street District which covers U.S. Hwy. 171 (Sixth Street) to First Street and from Mechanic Street to La. Hwy. 467. The logo can be created on a computer or hand drawn using pen or pencil, but must include the words, “Leesville Main Street.” Each design must measure 4-by-4 inches and be submitted on a separate piece of white paper, centered on the page. Deadline for entries is July 31 at 5 p.m. Applications are available at leesvillemainstreet.org. The winning entry will be unveiled at the “Change for Main” Banquet and Piccadilly Auction Aug. 25 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3106. Tennis clinic

The Leesville Country Club hosts youth tennis clinics in June. Randy Stephens, a certified professional tennis instructor, is teaching the clinics and provides an overview of the basic strokes to introduce children to tennis. The clinics are free of charge. Participants should provide their own racquets and wear tennis shoes. The clinic schedule is as follows:

Clinic #1 — Ages 6-7 — Is Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon.

Clinic #2 — Ages 8-11 — Is June 19 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Clinic #3 — Ages 12-14 — Is June 26 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. These clinics will cover forehand, backhand, serve and volley. Preregistration via phone is required. Interested parents and youth should contact Randy Stephens at (337) 239-0355.

Scholarship opportunity

The Vernon Historical Society is taking applications from Vernon Parish high school seniors for a scholarship. If you are going into the field of study of history or political science, see your guidance counselor for an application. The scholarship is $300.

Indianhead group

Recovery Support Group

The Alcoholics Anonymous Plant A Seed group hosts meetings just outside the North Fort gate on 1745 Chaffee Rd. Meetings are held Mondays at 7:15 p.m., Tuesdays at 6 p.m., Wednesdays at noon and Fridays at 5 p.m. For more information call 537-3913.
