lot sale from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. May 4 and 9

a.m.-6 p.m. May 5. Physically challenged

Strong B.A.N.D.S.

Wheelock Fitness Center hosts Strong

B.A.N.D.S. events in May. Participants receive

a free wrist band to show their commitment

to a healthy lifestyle. The three

May events include: Read for Fitness;

group fitness class raffle; and an indoor

Senior dinner

Beauregard and Vernon parishs, Faith

Training Christian Academy and homeschooled

seniors are invited to Youth of the

Chapel’s Senior Dinner, May 11, from 6-8

p.m. at Fort Polk’s Main Post Chapel.

There will be a free nacho bar and gifts.

Youth of the Chapel is a consolidated

youth group that meets Thursdays from

6:30-8 p.m. at Soldier’s Chapel, at the corner

of 22nd Street and Mississippi Avenue,

for food, fellowship, games and spiritual

ASAP volksmarch

The Fort Polk Army Substance Abuse

Program is sponsoring a "Spring Volksmarch"

Saturday at 9 a.m. The 2.1 mile

walk around the golf course is open to

everyone and intended to be a festive

event to unite and take a stand against alcohol

abuse. Registration is not mandatory

but the first 100 who register will receive a

CYSS activities

Child, Youth and School Services hosts

the following activities:

• CYSS will host a brain gym activity

parent and child workshop, “For One or

For All!” May 5 from 8:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

at bldg 701. The event is free for CYSS

members. Call 531-1955 for more information.

• HIRED! will host a teen job fair May

15 from 4-6 p.m. at the Siegfried Youth

Center. The fair is free for ninth through

12th grade CYSS members. Call 531-6965

for more information.

• HIRED! offers a college trip to Mc-

Neese State University in Lake Charles

May 19. The trip briefing is held at 7 a.m. at the Siegfried Youth Center and transportation

will depart at 7:30 a.m. Participants should return

by 3:30 p.m. All ninth-12th grade CYSS

members are eligible.

• CYSS hosts a kid’s run May 19 on Honor

Field. Check-in is at 9 a.m. Register online at

www.americakidsrun.org through May 18.

Edge! activities

Fort Polk youth can participate in these EDGE!

activities in May. Youth must be registered with

Child, Youth and School Services. To register call

531-1955. For more information about Edge! activities

• “A Penny Saved,” financial class, Wednesday

and May 9 and 16 from 4:30-5 p.m., bldg 400.

Only 10 seats available. Cost is $5 for youth in

first through fifth grades and free for youth in

sixth through 12th grade.

• “Swing is the Thing,” beginners golf lessons,

Tuesday and May 8 and 15 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at

Warrior Hills Golf Course. Clubs are provided.

Participants must wear sneakers. Cost is $5 for

youth in first through fifth grades and free for

youth in sixth through 12th grade. Only 10 slots

available.

• “Zentangle” art project, Thursday and May

10, 17 and 31 from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Arts and

Crafts Center. Cost is $7.50 for youth in grades

one through five and free for those in sixth

through 12th grade. There are 15 slots available.

• “Music to Your Ears,” beginners guitar class,

today and May 4 and 11 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at

Siegfried Youth Center. Class is free and open to

youth in grades six through 12. Cost is $5 for

youth in first through fifth grades. There are 15

slots available.

• Archery, today and May 4 and 11 from 5-6

p.m. at the Recreational Shooting Complex. Class

is free and open to youth in grades six through

12. There are 10 slots available.

Story time

Parent-to-Parent, in partnership with Allen

Memorial Library, presents a story time and fun

activity on May 17 and June 7 from 6-6:45 p.m. at

the library. Upcoming stories are “Verdi,” May 17

and “Giraffes Can’t Dance,” June 7. For more information

PWOC

Protestant Women of the Chapel meets Tuesdays

at the Main Post Chapel from 9-11:30 a.m.

The group offers several Bible topics. Child care

is provided and drop off begins at 8:45 a.m. An

evening Bible study is offered for female Soldiers

and career women Wednesdays from 6-7:15 p.m.

5K run

The Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and

Recreation will host a 5K run Wednesday at 6:30

a.m. at Wheelock Fitness Center. Registration is

held from 6-6:20 a.m. the morning of the race.

Runners are required to wear reflective belts. The

race is open to all authorized MWR users. For

more information call 531-2056.

Summer camps

Open registration for School Age Services

summer camp (first-fifth grades) and LA-4 fullday

and kinder summer camp (LA-4 and kindergarten)

begins Monday and continues throughout

the summer.

Both camps are from May 29-Aug. 10. Call

Spouse appreciation

Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation will

host Military Spouse Appreciation Day May 11

from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Fort Polk’s Warrior Community

Center. Chef Scott Landry will entertain

with a cooking demonstration and the first 300

people will receive an appreciation gift. Activities

begin with a light breakfast.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the

day and a free lunch is provided. Limited child

care is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reservations must be made no later than

May 4 by calling 531-1955. Children must be registered

with Child, Youth and School Services.
